The buzz over Pinterest is slowly dying, but the number of people using the website is still growing. According to Brandignity, Pinterest has over 4 million unique visitors per day with 2.3 billion page views in March. There have been many statistics showing that Pinterest users are generally interested in fashion and design and are generally women, but it seems that there isn’t much talk about whether these people are looking for entertainment or looking for business. In other words: Is Pinterest used in the B2B community?

  •     39% of people earn $25,000 to $49,999 per year.
  •     The majority of people are ages 39 to 44 (29%)
  •     More than 80 percent of users are women
  •     The majority of users enjoy looking at fashion designers/style, interior design, hobbies, and cute collectibles or animals.

Once you really consider the audience of Pinterest and your target audience, you’ll be able to have a better idea if Pinterest can work in your favor. Do you work with companies who work with audiences who fall into one or two of the above categories? If yes, then Pinterest can work for your B2B company; however the answer will be “no” for many. Although it can’t hurt to give Pinterest a try, it may not be a good idea to rely on the results for your B2B company if your audience doesn’t match up with the Pinterest Audience.

If you’re a B2B company that decides Pinterest aligns with your business objectives, there are a few ways that you can take advantage of the new phenomenon:

Whenever you post an infographic, image, or video, you have the option to connect it with a link to your website. If someone pins your picture then you will get an inbound link back to your site; thus helping improve your SEO efforts. This will also help someone find where the image was originally found, which helps increase the visibility or your site.

2. Connect with Customers/Clients and Future Customers/Clients

Pinterest also works as a social network, so it’s a good idea to go through and try and connect with other businesses where a partnership could potentially occur. This will help you see what others are posting to Pinterest and help you understand the types of things that your customers/clients find interesting.
